The human residents of Ashwick Grove are typically local, though there have been newer additions over the years. Most families have been in Ashwick for several generations. Families have known each other for decades, making Ashwick Grove a fairly tight knit community that knows a bit too much about each other. The humans have only just recently found out about the existence of vampires (werewolves and witches are still in the closet, so to speak). Some of the older generations in the community are very bigoted about such beings, but the younger generations are some what interested in the idea of the supernatural. It even becomes apparent that some locals might have family members that had once been thought to be dead, but turned out to be undead (in other words, to be vampires). Humans in Ashwick Grove are just that, human. They have no special power besides their humanity.

The vampires of our world are thoroughly complicated beings. Perhaps the best place to start would be how to make a vampire. The process goes as such: a vampire must drain a human until they are near death and then feed them with their own, undead blood. The maker then must bury himself in the ground with their “dead" human until they are reborn. If a Maker chooses to keep them around, they are the maker’s Progeny, and as such they are bound to their Maker. A progeny must follow any and all commands given by their maker. They may try to resist, but once the maker adds the words “As your Maker, I command you" the progeny will be forced to do as their Maker has commanded. Progeny and Maker can also communicate with one another over vast expances of distance. If a maker needs their progeny, they need only call out the name of their progeny. The progeny will then hear their maker and be greatly shaken by the force of the call; the progeny will then know the location of their master and will be able to go to them. The progeny can only be released from this bind to their Maker when their maker releases them by saying “As your Maker, I release you". After those words are said, the progeny will no longer have to follow the orders of their maker.<br /><br />The older the vampire, the stronger. Any age difference over fifty years would mean that the younger would stand absolutely no chance against the older. Also, the older the vampire becomes, the more “abilities" they will be able to access. Newborn vampires are immediately far stronger in all senses and physical strength and speed; and have regenerative healing. The older they become, the stronger these become. Also, any vampire over 150 years can levitate, meaning they can lift their bodies off the ground in battle. After the age of 1,000 years, however a vampire will be able to “fly". Who needs to run places when you can fly, right?<br /><br />Vampires also can “Glamor" humans. It is not an innate ability and must be taught to them. Glamoring is mind control; vampires can control human’s actions and thoughts, as well as erase anything they don’t want the human to remember. However, too much glamoring of a human will end up ruining the human mentally, leaving them unable to have true thoughts or make decisions for themselves.<br /><br />Their sustenance is very obvious. Blood. There are many choices for the vampires of this day and age; though many stick to their tried and true methods of feeding on humans and glamoring away the memory. Synthetic blood has finally been made and is available at almost any store, restaurant, or bar, and is available in all blood types. However, most vampires find the taste of the synthetic blood repulsive. Other vampires choose to steal from blood banks across the nation; and some of the ‘crazier’ vampires hunt and feed on animals. Any of these choices will keep a vampire healthy, and their power will not be any less based on their diet.<br /><br />Vampires weaknesses consist of many things. To invoke “The True Death" on a vampire, they must be staked with wood straight in the heart. Wooden bullets have also proven effective at this. Upon the True Death, the vampire’s body will explode, leaving only a pile of goo and intestines behind. Fire will also invoke The True Death; it will break down a vampire’s body, leaving behind only molten red goo. Decapitation has also proven effective in killing vampires. Silver is also toxic to vampires. Silver of any kind will burn a vampire, and upon it’s removal will heal more slowly than other wounds (the older a vampire, the more quickly the silver wound will heal). If a vampire is bound with silver (or even just laid over their skin) any part of the body that the silver touches will be unusable by the vampire. So, if it was on a wrist, the arm would be useless to the vampire. Vampires are also vulnerable to all forms of magic.<br /><br />As for entry to homes, vampires of our day and age follow by what we have always known in myth. To enter a human’s dwelling, they must be invited in by a human inside the house. However, this invitation is not permanent. Should the human wish, the invitation may be revoked and no matter what the vampire does to resist, they will be pulled out of the house and kept out until the invitation is given again.<br /><br />Vampires are also vulnerable to sunlight. Vampires may not walk in the sun unless they have been given a spell bound talisman by a witch. The talisman could be any kind of jewelery; rings, necklaces, bracelets, etc. Any vampire without a talisman will slowly burn in the sunlight until they are nothing but a pile of ash.<br /><br />Vampires are also bound by a set of rules that have been around for centuries. Any vampire who kills another vampire will be punished; any vampire who harms or kills another vampire’s human will be punished. Punishment could mean having their fangs pulled, being forced to create another vampire, or The True Death.<br /><br />Vampire’s can “own" a human. In a group (or nest) of vampires, if one vampire says "(Human’s name) is mine", no other vampire can touch or harm the human without facing punishment as mentioned above. The human does not have to give consent to this, though they would be smart to, otherwise they are just a free meal to the rest of the nest. Though, most “ownership" comes from a deeper relationship between the human and vampire.<br /><br />Vampire blood is also a hot commodity. For those who know how to use it right, the blood of a vampire can produce a drug-like trip, as well as giving them advanced senses (though far weaker than even newborn vampires). Also, if a human takes in enough vampire blood directly from a vampire (in any manner), the vampire will always “be a part" of the human. Meaning, they will always be able to locate the human, and sense the human’s emotion at any given moment. Even if the vampire is in deep rest and the human is in trouble, the vampire will be awoken from it’s slumber due to the strong emotion of the human. The human will experience sexual attraction to the vampire (mostly taking form in dreams).<br /><br />Vampires were revealed when the elected president revealed himself to be a vampire. Not long after, many other powerful people in the world revealed that they, too were of the undead kind. Not every vampire has come out of hiding; for some prefer their privacy, or are ashamed of what they are, or have a talisman and are able to pass for human. It is the vampire’s choice whether or not to reveal themselves, and in the town of Ashwick Grove, no one is ever certain of who anyone really is

The werewolves in Ashwick are part of a pack (unless stated otherwise). The pack typically runs together on full moons when the moon calls to them to shed their human skin. The pack sees themselves as somewhat of a family. They watch out for each other. They fight, they scream, they bite, but in the end they love each other. After all, no one else can understand the lifestyle but fellow wolves.<br /><br />The pack considers themselves to be ‘wolves’ (rarely calling themselves ‘werewolves’). Most people just think the ‘wolves’ are a closer knit group of friend because the werewolves are not out. The human residents of Ashwick do NOT know about the existence of werewolves or witches. Some werewolves might have outed themselves to people they love and trust, but it is less likely because they doubt people would understand what they were—especially after seeing the reactions of the world to the vampires outing.<br /><br />Werewolves can change whenever they want. They do not have to change only at the full moon, but they always have to change at the full moon. Born into werewolf-dom, these werewolves enjoy changing into their wolf selves and being free. The transformation is only painful when a wolf tries to prevent the transformation from happening on a full moon when the silver orb beckons them to be their true selves.<br /><br />Most wolves knew about their heritage from family, as it is passed down from either or both parents. Every wolf has their first change on the first full moon following their sixteen birthday. The wolves that were fortunate enough to be told of their change and helped into the transition felt little to no pain as they accepted their fate. Those, however, that hadn’t a clue about what they were had a rough and painful transition. When a wolf realizes what is happening to them and they accept the change, it is easy and beautiful. Every wolf in the pack now has an easy and simple transition. Often times, they feel a warming sensation. Like the warmth of the sunlight on a Spring day.<br /><br />To become a werewolf, you must be born one! Werewolves never kill people by accident in their wolf forms because they have full control over themselves while in their wolf form. This does not mean werewolves haven’t killed, but it highly frowned upon in the pack. They have strict rules to follow to keep themselves in check and killing a human means being discovered. Any wolf that puts the pack in that sort of danger is expected to be put down.<br /><br />Unlike vampires, werewolves do not need to feed on humans. They are prefects satisfied eating as humans do, though they have a slightly higher appetite. Transforming takes a lot of energy. Also, werewolves are more agile than humans and can run faster than the average human (though not faster or even close to that of a vampire). Other than their ability to change into a wolf form, being highly agile, and speedy, werewolves only have a heightened sense of sound and smell when they are wolves. They do heal faster than humans as well, but not as quickly as vampires. It may take a few hours as opposed to days for humans.<br /><br />When they are transformed into wolf forms, they can communicate with each other without needing to speak. However, your mind is not completely open to every last thought or memory you’ve ever had. Just because you think something in the pack does not mean everyone can hear you, the wolves communicate through thoughts but they way it works is on a different wave length than actual thoughts. Wolves can communicate with wolves outside of their pack, when in their wolf form, but the bond is easier to communicate when in the same pack.<br /><br />You cannot be bitten and become a werewolf. That is a myth. Silver is still bad for werewolves and they keep clear of the metal at all costs—though the effects are only deadly when silver is embedded under the skin for too long. The closer to the heart the more deadly and the more saturated silver is in the blood stream, the more likely a wolf is to die. Wolves can hand silver and be around it for short periods of time, but it will make them sick. It won’t make their hands smoke, but it can leave burns… depending on how long it is handled or the amount of silver. Vomiting, high fever (or just a high temperature), cold sweat, chills, nausea, etc. may occur during over exposure to silver. A silver bullet can kill a werewolf, if a werewolf doesn’t get it out in time. But typically, werewolves can also die like humans… they are just slightly more resistant and harder to kill.<br /><br />Werewolves do not smell like dogs to vampires and vampires do not smell like dead corpses to wolves. Werewolves can only sense other supernaturals from a pricking of hair on the back of their neck. Sometimes it can be ignored, but often they know the sense means another werewolf or vampire is around. Werewolves can not sense witches. They may know a witch if she has revealed him or herself to them.<br /><br />Remember these wolves are part of a close knit pack. They love being a wolves as it isn’t a burden. It is not painful (since they are all well past 16 and have experienced transformation for several moons). Being a wolf is freeing. It’s easier than being a human, but seeing as they were born ‘human’ and had lived most of their life as a human and continue to do so, they have a connection with both the wild and their humanity.

The witches of Ashwick are descendants of those that held the gift. Sometimes the gift would skip a generation or several generations, but typically the power is passed down from mother to child (female and male children can be witches).<br /><br />The term witch has been cursed since the beginning of time. Across history, witches have faced more prejudice than any other being on the planet. In 1692, the people of Salem Massachusetts killed several innocent lives in the name of witches. Queen Anne Boleyn in England was believed to have gone to a witch to conspire against her husband, King Henry. And even in today’s world, witches are believed to be devil worshipers, satanists, and all together evil beings. But all of these things are far from the truth.<br /><br />Witches typically use their powers for healing, whether it be a simple healing spell or potion. In the history, actual witches have been referred to as ‘medicine men/women’ because they used ‘remedies’ to help with ailments that doctors couldn’t heal. Though witches, with practice and together, are capable of stronger spells. Much stronger spells.<br /><br />It is a rare thing for witches (not related) to practice together. In the past, witches have formed covens, but history has shown that these groups have always (and I mean always) self destruct. The power consumes them until they were nothing. Having this knowledge, keeps other witches from practicing in group (though that doesn’t mean an occasional group forms for the greater good for a time or witches don’t pass on some vital information to others). Witches are distrusting of their fellow supernaturals, especially other witches. Because their powers are greatened together, it can be dangerous if the one of the witches has malicious intent. It cannot only be dangerous for the other witch or witches, but for those around them. Most importantly, it can be dangerous to expose ones self as a witch.<br /><br />Being exposed as a witch can be dangerous because of how valuable witches are—especially to other supernaturals. This does not mean that witches don’t expose their true natures to other supernaturals (vampire often find a willing witch to cast a day spell on a talisman in order to help them walk in the light). Witches are highly cautious about who they do expose themselves to because of the danger they face.<br /><br />Supernatural beings cannot sense witches (except for other witches). However, witches can tell a supernatural being is such when they are touched by or touch said being. They cannot sense them in any other way, but by touch. This does not extend to other witches. The power inside of witches flows and pulses into the world like a throbbing energy ball reaching out. When another witch is near, they can sense each others' magic. Typically the magic finds each other and it is easy to figure out where the magic is emitting from. (Though the magic between them flows together, this does not mean their magic is linked to make them stronger. Witches must consent to work together).<br /><br />There are only two ways a witches magic can strengthen. One is by linking magic with another witch. And the second is good old fashioned practice. Some witches, with enough experience and practice, can be as strong as a pair of witches linked together (these witches are more mature and older than any playable character below). For the average witch, power isn’t what they aim for (which in turns gives them more strength in their magic). Witches aim for control over their magic, especially seeing as witches are still human. This means their emotions can get the better of them and their magic. Being in control of ones magic, especially when they may have a time where they can’t control their emotions, is crucial in keeping them from exposure.<br /><br />Witches practice their craft daily, though in varying degrees. All witches also have ‘spell books’, in which they keep their potion recipes, their spells, and other relevant information. Generally, witches get a spell book passed down to them from family that they continue to add to, but some witches have lost their family spell books or haven’t had been given the token yet, so they start their own. Having a spell book is crucial for witches because it helps them practice their craft and figure out new incantations and potions.<br /><br />Witches do not have any ‘special’ powers past their magical abilities. Witches do have varying degrees of strength in their magic, but only from practice. And witches do not use their magic to fight one another because the effects are catastrophic and could ultimately lead to their deaths.<br /><br />Finally, witches cannot be glamored by vampires. Their magic protects them against such things.
